Jet Li and World Famous Leaders: Deng Xiao-Ping and Richard Milhous Nixon

Because of Jet Li's great achievements in traditional Chinese martial arts: Wushu, he was well known among the world famous leaders.


Jet Li felt confused after he became famous. When he was at the age of twenty, he has written letters to Chinese leaders including Deng Xiao-Ping, Deng Ying-Chao, Yang Shang-Kun and Wang Zhen for help. He also received the letters from them. Jet Li also said that their care and encourage have a deep effect on his establishment of the charitable foundation: One Fund.

Three weeks after he wrote the letters to the Chinese leaders, Jet Li was received by the leaders in Peking and Deng Xiao-Ping wrote him a letter to encourage him. Two more weeks later, a person conveyed Deng Ying-Chao's wishes to him but forgot the pears that Deng Ying-Chao gave to him. The reason that Jet Li devoted himself into his One Fund was partially because of the advices from those leaders.

We all know that Jet Li has shot a film named The Bodyguard from Beijing. However, nobody would imagine that former US president Richard Milhous Nixon has invited the young Jet Li to be his personal bodyguard but was refused by Jet Li. It was in 1974 when he performed in US, after the performance, Nixon asked Jet Li whether he would like to be his bodyguard. Jet Li replied that he wanted to safeguard one billion Chinese, not a single person. Kissinger added that Jet Li could be a diplomat in the future. This incidence has become a piece of headline news on New York Times.
